Notary Public in Thailand — What It Really Is
Thailand does not operate a separate Notary Public profession in the manner familiar to readers from the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada or continental Europe. There is no government-issued "Notary Public commission" handed to laypersons. Instead, the Lawyers Council of Thailand — a statutory body established under the Lawyers Act B.E. 2528 (1985) — authorises practising Thai lawyers who have completed the Notarial Services Attorney training programme to perform a defined set of notarial acts. The credential they hold is called "Notarial Services Attorney" or in Thai "ทนายความผู้ทำคำรับรองลายมือชื่อและเอกสาร". Their notarisations are routinely accepted by foreign embassies, foreign courts, multinational corporations, foreign banks, immigration authorities and universities worldwide.
Because the credential sits inside the legal profession, our Notarial Services Attorneys are also licensed lawyers — meaning they can draft the document being notarised, advise you on its legal effect in both Thai and the destination country, and identify upstream issues before signing. This is materially different from a US-style Notary Public who is generally limited to witnessing signatures without legal advice.

How the Process Works
Step 1 — Initial contact. Send the document or a description of what you need to notarise via LINE, email naati@ilc.ltd, or phone +66832494999. We respond within 30 minutes during business hours with a draft, a quote, and an appointment slot. Step 2 — Drafting (if needed). Our lawyer drafts in bilingual format and emails for your review. We iterate until you approve. Step 3 — Signing appointment. You visit our Ladprao 95 office or arrange for the lawyer to come to your hotel/condo for a small additional fee. Bring original passport, secondary ID, and any supporting documents. Step 4 — Signing ceremony. The Notarial Services Attorney verifies your identity, witnesses the signing, applies the official notarial stamp and signature, and registers the act in the Lawyers Council notarial register. Step 5 — Apostille (optional). We courier to MFA Chaeng Wattana the same day; Apostille is collected and emailed/couriered to you 1-3 business days later.
Apostille and the Hague Convention
Thailand acceded to the Hague Apostille Convention on 14 July 2023, and it entered into force on 14 February 2024. This is one of the most consequential changes in Thai legal services in the past decade. Documents notarised by a Lawyers Council Notarial Services Attorney can now be Apostilled at the MFA Department of Consular Affairs and used directly in 125 member states, including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, all 27 EU member states, Switzerland, Norway, Japan, South Korea, India, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa and 95+ others. The previous workflow — notarisation, then MFA legalisation, then destination embassy legalisation — has been collapsed into a single Apostille step.
