What is Thai Consular Legalization (นิติกรณ์)?

Thai Consular Legalization, locally known as Nitikorn (นิติกรณ์), is the official authentication process performed by the Department of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand (MFA). It is the legally recognised mechanism by which documents issued inside Thailand — birth certificates, marriage certificates, university degrees, company affidavits, court judgments, police clearance certificates, powers of attorney, notarised contracts — are made admissible in foreign jurisdictions. Without the MFA stamp, embassies, immigration authorities, foreign courts, banks, and registrars will reject Thai documents on submission.

Apostille — A Game Changer for Thailand (Effective 14 September 2025)

On 14 December 2024, Thailand formally acceded to the Hague Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents. The convention entered into force for Thailand on 14 September 2025, fundamentally simplifying outbound document authentication. Step-by-Step Process
