1. Non-Immigrant O — Marriage to a Thai Citizen

The Non-O Marriage Visa is the primary route for foreign spouses. After the initial 90-day Non-O entry (issued at a Thai embassy abroad or converted from a tourist entry inside Thailand), you extend to a 1-year permission to stay. Renewable indefinitely each year at any Immigration Office.

Eligibility: legally married to a Thai citizen with a registered Thai marriage certificate (KR.2 + KR.3). Foreign-issued marriage certificates require legalization at the Thai MFA before being recognised.

2. Non-Immigrant O — Retirement (Age 50+)

The most common long-stay visa for foreign retirees. Available to anyone aged 50 or above, married or single. The visa is converted from a tourist entry (or applied for abroad as O-A) and extended for one-year periods at Immigration.

3. Non-Immigrant O-X — 10-Year Retirement Visa

For nationals of 14 eligible countries (USA, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Australia, Canada, Japan, Switzerland, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland) aged 50+. Issued as years. 4. Non-Immigrant B — Work Permit & Business

Issued for employment with a Thai-registered company or directorship of a Thai company. Two parts: the Non-B visa (issued at Thai embassy abroad or converted in-country) and the separate Work Permit issued by the Ministry of Labour, Department of Employment.

5. Non-Immigrant ED — Education / Language Study

Issued for full-time study at MOE-accredited Thai schools and universities, including Thai language schools, Mandarin language schools, university degree programs, Muay Thai schools, dive instructor courses, monastic ordination, and BOI-approved internships. Maximum 1 year per ED visa, extendable through the school for additional years. Must show genuine attendance — random Immigration audits since 2017 have cracked down on fake schools.

6. Long-Term Resident (LTR) 10-Year Visa

Launched 2022 by the Board of Investment (BOI) to attract high-net-worth individuals, retirees, remote workers, and skilled professionals. Four sub-categories with distinct financial and professional thresholds. Benefits: 10-year visa (), bundled work permit, exemption from 90-day reporting, fast-track at airports, 17% personal income tax cap, ability to bring up to 4 dependants, no Thai director restriction. Application processed by the BOI online portal — typically 30-60 working days.

7. Visa Extensions, Re-Entry Permits & 90-Day Reports
